Marie Barbieux

PhD student at the Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefranche

PhD student since November 2014, I analyse data of profiling floats around the globe to better understand phytoplankton. Phytoplankton is the first link of the trophic network, trying to understand how it grows and where it settles are crucial questions especially because climate is changing. I aslo have worked with Paul Nival to realise the “Trophic regime” and the “Zooplankton” part of a project and also the subject of “Bioluminescence”.

My motivation to participate in this project ...

I have travelled a lot, especially on a sailing boat around the Atlantic; therefore, I’m keen on the Ocean’s life and its tiny to huge residents. I realised a BsC in natural sciences with a minor of marine biology and oceanography. I wish to realise a PhD but I think it’s very important to link science and public interest. Making people aware of the extreme beauty, fragility and complexity of this ecosystem is my paramount and I’m really pleased to participate in the project “mon océan et moi”.
