Two new floats deployed in the oxygen minimum zones of the Pacific Ocean that help monitoring changes in particle size

The last two floats of the UK Bio-Argo programme have been deployed a few weeks ago, and now they are travelling in the waters of the Pacific Ocean around 10°N. At these latitudes, there are the so-called oxygen minimum zones, areas where the oxygen concentration below 100 m of depth is very low with respect to other oceanic environments.

The floats metbio011e and metbio012e are also measuring particle light backscattering at 2 wavelengths. These quantities are useful to determine the size of marine particles and understand how much particle remineralisation rates change with respect to other areas.
