Marie Barbieux

Student in oceanography

My name is Marie Barbieux and I am currently a Student in oceanography (MsC of Oceanography and Marine ecosystems at the University of Pierre and Marie Curie). I will start in september 2013 my 2nd year of MsC with the intention of studying the pelagic ecosystems. More precisely, zooplankton communities and the impact of environmental forcings or climate change on this trophic compartment which is one of my favorite interests. I have worked with Paul Nival to realise the “Trophic regime” and the “Zooplankton” part of a project and also the subject of “Bioluminescence”.

My motivation to participate in this project ...

I have travelled a lot, especially on a sailing boat around the Atlantic, therefore, I’m keen on the Ocean’s life and its tiny to huge residents. I realised a BsC in natural sciences with a minor of marine biology and oceanography. I wish to realise a PhD but I think it’s very important to link science and public interest. Making people aware of the extreme beauty, fragility and complexity of this ecosystem is my paramount and I’m really pleased to participate in the project “mon océan et moi”.
