Le 17 Mars 2016, deux étudiants en thèse du LOV (Raphaëlle Sauzède et Simon Ramondenc) ont rendu visite à une classe de collégiens du collège Paul Arène pour une intervention « adopt a float » axée sur le thème des saisons dans l’océan.

Mr Tirreno, the float adopted by the Pio X Artigianelli School in Italy, has detected in the center of the Tyrrhenian Sea two maxima of chlorophyll! The first one is at about 60 m of depth. The second one is smaller and is located at about 200 m…so it is very deep!

Calypso (metbio007d), le flotteur de l'unité d'enseignement à l'hôpital pour les enfants et adolescents malades,
se trouve toujours dans son tourbillon à l'est des côtes du Brésil.
Alors que le froid commence à se faire sentir sur la côte d'azur, Calypso baigne dans des températures assez agréables
avec 25°C en surface, et il nous montre un beau pic de Chlorophylle à 200 mètres, preuve d'une présence importante de
phytoplanctons.
Pendant ce temps à Brest, l'équipe OMTAB a validé 21 nouveaux flotteurs dans le bassin profond de l'Ifremer.
Ces 21 flotteurs rejoindront dans les mois qui viennent Calypso, certains en Atlantique nord et d'autres dédiés
aux grands froids iront naviguer en Arctique.

Calypso (metbio007d), the float of the teaching unity of the hospital for sick children and teenagers,
is still in a gyre east of the Brazilian coast.
We already feel the cold in the French Riviera, but where it is, the temperature are still warm, with 25°C at surface.
Calpyso shows us a nice Chlorophyll peak at 200 meters, sign of abundant phytoplankton.
Meanwhile, in Brest at the Ifremer institute, a team of engineers have validated 21 news floats in a deep pool.
These floats will soon go in the ocean, like Calypso, some in the North Atlantic ocean and others dedicated to extreme cold sea are going to navigate in Arctic.

Pour l’année scolaire 2015-2016, l’équipe ‘adopt a float’ propose à tous les élèves et à leurs enseignants d’élaborer un projet autour d’un thème commun : les changements saisonniers dans les océans. Les groupes pourront travailler sur la région de leur choix, par exemple celle dans laquelle navigue le flotteur qu’ils ont adopté, l’objectif étant que l’ensemble des projets offre une vision globale des saisons dans les océans du monde. 

Soyez inventifs ! Comme chaque année, l’équipe ‘adopt a float’ attend avec impatience vos créations…

For the school year 2015-2016, the 'adopt a float' team proposes to all participating students and teachers to develop a project around a common theme: the seasonal changes in the oceans. The groups will work on the region of their choice, for example the one in which navigates their float. The ultimate objective is that the projects all together offer a global vision of the seasons in the world's oceans.

Avez-vous déjà vu les dernières données collectées par le flotteur TGGS-UK ? Bien qu’on soit en début de saison hivernale et que la nuit polaire ait déjà commencé à ces hautes latitudes (voir PAR), les températures (6°C) de l’eau semblent assez clémentes (oui tout est relatif !) : c’est l’effet du Gulf Stream !

Have you seen the latest data collected by the TGGS-UK float? Although it is the early winter season and the polar night has already begun at these high latitudes (see PAR), the water temperatures (6 °C) seem rather mild (yes, everything is relative!): this is due to the Gulf Stream!

Deux flotteurs profileurs ont récemment été déployés en Mer Rouge (RED_SEA__OA_lovbio062c et RED_SEA__OA_lovbio051c). Notez la température de l’eau de surface : elle est encore très élevée (28°C) !

Two profiling floats were recently deployed in the Red Sea (RED_SEA__OA_lovbio062c and RED_SEA__OA_lovbio051c). Note the water temperature at the sea surface: it is still very high (28 °C)!

Les premiers tests d'une nouvelle génération de flotteurs profileurs - ProIce- destinés à mesurer sous la glace arctique et antarctique, ont eu lieu sur le Lac Bédard, au Québec.

On the 28th November 2014, “Adopt a float” visited 5 classes of the “Santa Dorotea” school in Lucca (Italy). Emanuele Organelli, researcher at the LOV, dedicated the day to explaining the functioning of the floats and the importance of the observed parameters. As first actors, students also performed some practical experiences in the school labs.......proving to be happy!
